Porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns have a metal base which is bonded to the porcelain veneer. The metal provides a strong but malleable density, while the porcelain gives the crown a natural tooth-like appearance and is therefore widely used for restoration of front and back teeth. This type of crown usually uses a partial veneer that covers only the visible portion of the tooth.
